Desert tours to Zagora and Merzouga

Every tour is private and runs on your dates. All of them start in Marrakech except the 10-day tour, which starts in Casablanca. Prices shown are online prices.

How to choose

Zagora or Merzouga?

Two days: Zagora

Zagora is the shortest way to spend a night in the desert from Marrakech. You cross the High Atlas, explore the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, follow the palm groves of the Draa Valley and sleep in a camp near Zagora, where the dunes are small.

Three or four days: Merzouga

The Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga are far higher, and you ride a camel into them at sunset, but they are about nine to ten hours’ drive from Marrakech, so the trip takes at least three days. The route goes through the Dades Valley. The 3-day tour returns to Marrakech, another 3-day tour ends in Fes, and the 4-day tour comes back a different way through the Draa Valley.

A week or more

The 7-day and 10-day tours combine a night in the Sahara with Fes, Chefchaouen, Volubilis and the Atlantic cities.

Good to know

Desert nights can be cold from November to March, so bring a warm layer even when the days are hot. Each tour page shows the day-by-day itinerary and what is included and not included.

Still deciding? Our guide Agafay Desert vs Sahara compares the options, and the Merzouga desert guide explains what to expect in the dunes.
