Imlil village in the High Atlas Mountains

Mountains and valleys

Atlas Mountains tours from Marrakech

Berber villages around Imlil, the Ourika Valley, the Oukaimeden plateau, the Ouzoud waterfalls and a three-day trek, all private and from Marrakech.

How to choose

Which mountain trip is right for you?

An easy first day: Ourika Valley or Imlil

The Ourika Valley is about 1h15 from Marrakech: you follow the river past Berber villages to Setti Fatma, where a short climb leads to a series of cascades. Imlil, about 1h30 away at the foot of Mount Toubkal, is the place for a walk through terraced fields and villages with a local mountain guide.

Higher and cooler: Oukaimeden

About 80 km from Marrakech, Oukaimeden is an open plateau between roughly 2,600 and 3,200 metres. It is Morocco’s main ski area in winter when snow allows, and a cool place for walks the rest of the year.

Waterfalls: Ouzoud

The Ouzoud falls, around 110 metres high in a green gorge about three hours from Marrakech, make a longer day with many steps down to the pools.

Two or three days

The 3-day trek from Imlil crosses valleys and passes below Toubkal, with nights in village guesthouses and a mule to carry the bags. The 2-day tour combines a walk among Berber villages near Imlil with a night in the Agafay desert.

Good to know

Temperatures drop with altitude, so bring a warm layer outside summer, and wear comfortable shoes: some paths are steep and uneven.
