Leave Marrakech behind and travel into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains on a private excursion to Imlil. As the road climbs through the foothills and mountain valleys, the landscape gradually changes from the plains surrounding Marrakech to terraced slopes, orchards and traditional villages built into the mountainsides.

After approximately 90 minutes on the road, arrive in Imlil, a mountain village that serves as a starting point for treks beneath Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. You do not need to be an experienced mountaineer to enjoy this region: the surrounding valleys offer rewarding walks and beautiful scenery without attempting the summit.

Meet your local mountain guide and set off on foot along village paths and mountain trails. Walk past terraced fields, stone houses, fruit trees and traditional irrigation channels while learning about Amazigh culture and the agricultural traditions that have shaped life in the High Atlas for generations.

Depending on the walking route and your pace, you may explore nearby settlements such as Aroumd and enjoy views deeper into the Toubkal valley. Stop for photographs, take in the fresh mountain air and appreciate the contrast with the energy of Marrakech.

You can also arrange time to relax over Moroccan mint tea or enjoy a traditional lunch in the mountains, subject to your selected package. Your guide can adapt the walk to suit your interests and fitness level, although some trails have uneven surfaces and steep sections.

In the afternoon, return to Marrakech after a day of mountain scenery, local encounters and outdoor exploration.
