Overview

  • Hotel pickup
  • Licensed local guide
  • Private tour

One morning is enough for the highlights of Marrakech, but not to understand the city. This private full-day tour takes the time to go further: the royal palaces and the Saadian Tombs, the old Jewish quarter of the Mellah, the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the artisans who still work in the medina’s souks, all with the same licensed local guide.

The morning is for the monuments of the south medina: the Koutoubia, the 19th-century Bahia Palace, the ruins of the 16th-century El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs, then the spice market and lanes of the Mellah. After a lunch break in a restaurant your guide recommends, the afternoon heads north through the souks to the Ben Youssef Madrasa, one of the largest historic Koranic schools in North Africa, and Le Jardin Secret, a restored riad garden.

You finish in the craft quarters (dyers, metalworkers, leather and woodwork) and on Jemaa el-Fna square in the late afternoon, as the musicians, storytellers and food stalls arrive. The pace is yours: the day can be shortened, lengthened or rearranged around what interests you most.

Highlights

  • Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs
  • The Mellah, Marrakech’s historic Jewish quarter
  • The Ben Youssef Madrasa and Le Jardin Secret
  • The craft quarters: dyers, metalworkers and leather
  • Jemaa el-Fna as the evening market sets up

Good to know

Expect several hours of walking on uneven lanes, with breaks along the way. Wear comfortable shoes; in summer, bring a hat and water.

Non-Muslim visitors cannot enter the Koutoubia Mosque itself, but the gardens and the view of the minaret are open to everyone.

Monument opening hours can change on Fridays and public holidays; your guide adjusts the order of visits if needed.

The Majorelle Garden is outside the medina, in Gueliz. Ask us when you book if you would like to include it.

Every trip is private and can be adjusted: dates, pace, stops and the comfort level of your accommodation. Prices depend on group size and season, so we send a written quote with everything that is included.
